Royal Opera House Orchestra, Covent Garden conducted by Robert Irving
EMI Angel 35521 (HMV CLP 1070) 1957 EMI pressing/matrices: 2XEA886 -2N / 2XEA887-2N. NOT ON CD HMV HQM 1078 reissue (Gordon/Lambert/Bliss) Sleeve-note >>>
There is a stereo version of this record which was not issued until 1981 at the 50th anniversary of the Royal Ballet. It's part of a 2-record HMV Greensleeve set(ESDW 713,I think the no. is).
ReplyDeleteThat's interesting inasmuch as a knowlegeable Balletomane mentioned there was just a 50's stereo tape.
DeleteI was aware of only "Valse for the Gemini" as a poor-sounding fill-up on an SXLP (Checkmate/Britten Matinees).
Maybe I could find a review of the ESDW - but don't have it - and might suspect all the tracks weren't there!
You're correct - page 915: Penguin 1982 Guide.
DeleteThe others were incomplete compared to the original CLP(XLP/SXLP)/CSD/ESD/ESD LP's (have all 4 (5))..
After your reply yesterday, I checked my records and all 11 pieces are present.
Deletethank you for this rare time capsule artifact. -a.v.
ReplyDeleteTime Capsules get hidden - LP's take up (lots of) space..
Deleteo.k. Just a tad late. But nevertheless : Thank you for this jewel.
ReplyDeleteBetter late than.............!
DeleteQuite a fun LP..especially the sparkling Couperin/Jacob.
Turned-up just beforehand @ the local Oxfam. Wouldn't have expected to see anything that vintage - and now Nothing turns up!
Never got around to Irving's mono Philharmonia CLP of Arnold/Britten (the latter sounding superior as the SXLP stereo reissue).
