Varese-Sarabande VC 81042 Recorded: Paris, 1951 Remington releases: (Rhapsodies) R-47 / R-52 - also as R-207. (Dixtuor) R-107.
The Rhapsodies are 'stereo' due to the LP sounding 'incorrect' when replayed as mono. "Dixtuor" has a limited range of Dynamic contrast.
Re-edited slightly - Sept.2012 Sleeve-note >>>
Simply superb transfers. Well done!! Enescu's Dixtuor is perhaps a little less memorable than either of the other works on this LP, resembling the wind music of Richard Strauss without the pomp, but the style and sincerity of these performances cannot be denied.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I did get the impression that the Dixtour rather quickly exhausted some limited Material! ..Im uploading the Rozhdestvensky/Moscow RSO Enescu Symphony 1 + Rhapsody 1 (stereo 1961) before too long - though it wont be such an Easy transfer as the well-pressed Varese LP..
ReplyDeleteGreat to have this Frank. Never enough Enescu doing his thing whether conducting, playing the violin etc...probably greatest all around musical genius since Mozart. Thanks for this one!
ReplyDeleteHaven't listened yet, but the Enesco is in my queue as I write. These have got to sound better than the original Remingtons.
ReplyDeleteMuch appreciated.
Well, Fred,..I certainly cant compete with all those interesting US Mono issues on other Blogs - and which only infrequently made their way to the UK.
