Thanks you - though must say i quite prefer the ones by Harty&Halle on Historical, it's always interesting to hear contrasting interpretations.
ReplyDeleteas far as i know - 33cx 1003 has all the overtures but 'le carnaval romain', which was issued only on a 78: lx 1574
ReplyDelete33cx 1008 would then be a karajan disc.
regards
Yes, indeedy..33CX 1008 is Karajan/Mozart - but the June 1955 Gramophone catalogue quotes both 1003 & 1008 as Berlioz/Kletzki - and the October 1952 EMG Monthly Letter states 33CX1003 / Berlioz is conducted by Karajan...
DeleteThank you for noticing cataloging errors from some 60+ years back.
thanks for all the effort!
Deletemy quick version of the cover turned out to be a bit more on the cyan spectrum; i also did the sxl2259 from scratch and think it turned out rather well - if you care for an addition to the diamonds cover let me know.
(the remark on lamination flaws was meant in general terms, not your scans - e.g. i've seen covers where the foil developped blisters only on areas with certain colours, etc etc.)
The SDD Malcolm suits me: SXL's of that date were anyway cheaply/badly printed by St.James Press - which aspect appealed to Sir Edward Lewis; the ex-accountant.
DeleteDamp usually causes the Decca laminates to whiten/blister - or mottling onto black print.
i can not comment on the physical quality of those sxl covers - but i too thought the photo used (if you know it) looks rather generic - cheap, so to say; but then again the harpsicord recordings of mercury e.g. have a somewhat similar feel (i'd call that the "dance of the vampires - harpsichord - look")
Deletebtw a lovely enrichment to my vocabulary - mottling… and all i ever have to do is think of the pagliacci! :D
