Benno Moiseiwitsch - A Chopin recital - HMV 1956/1958

Frederic Chopin:

Ballade no.3 in A-flat major, op.47    21 December 1958
Nocturne in E major, op.62/2    19 December 1958
Fantaisie-Impromptu in C-sharp minor, op.66    19 December 1956
Scherzo no.2 in B-flat minor, op.31    21 December 1958

Scherzo no.4 in E major, op.54    19 December 1958
Nocturne in G major, op.37/2    19 December 1958
Ballade no.4 in F minor, op.52    19 February & 19 December 1956

Barcarolle in F-sharp major, op.60    19 February 1956  (HMV CLP 1072 - 2XEA889 -4N(a) - 1957 LP)

Benno Moiseiwitsch, piano     8 files 16/44 FLAC  MediaFire Download

HMV  SXLP 30075  (1967-1st UK stereo)  1970 LP. Matrices: 2YEA270 -6 / 2YEA271 -9G.  Recorded: EMI Studio 3, Abbey Road.
The SXLP is distinctly preferable to the 1959 mono CLP 1282 - but required considerable wet-cleaning & editing...

NO Auto declick/re-eq  (CLP 1072 Barcarolle <+1dB treble: see EMG reviews). Benno Moiseiwitsch's interpretations are 'characterful'.  Sleeve-note + CLP covers / EMG reviews >>>

    1. Wasn't sure if these had "made it to CD" - the Barcarolle otherwise stereo in an early EMI Stereosonic tape
Almost a decade back I put his Rachmaninov '78's' (APR 2LP) on Historical blog - also bought the 2LP 'acoustics' - both from 'Caruso & Co' - but never played that set in some 40years..
I've the WRC (SH380) of Rachmaninov PC2 + the stereo taping of the Paganini - but they seem a bit filtered compared to the CLP's (hereabouts for nearly 15 years..). Otherwise only have the ALP Beethoven "Kreutzer" with Heifetz + a variety of 78 sets - some possibly not available..
Glad you like this (presumably mostly downloaded from JAPAN..) - decided not to use any auto-declick as it removes micro-dynamics and top-end attack/sparkle - but a slog to edit.

Thank you so very much for spending the enormous amount of time required to restore these priceless treasures and for sharing them with us.

    1. As usual..I noticed a few teensy 'remainers' in terms of transient thingies (via Foobar).
Using an Audio Editor (Audacity) see if you can locate/eradicate any - as I did 4 'searches' of each file!
Moiseiwitsch is the first LP pianist I heard (6yo) but must agree with some that his technique was less than decade/s previous - isn't he over-pedalling quite a bit and the momentum can seem a bit confused - but, IMO, preferable to Perlemuter's Chopin recital (have a mint mono of his 1960 recital on Concert Hall 2223 (UK Philips made) - which I see that a 'M. Alexandre Bak' wants £12+ (a bargain compared to Reiner's Chicago 'Pictures' @ £27+ !!.)

    1. I've an interesting 1959 Chopin recital by Jose Iturbi (possibly Not on CD) - only the French mono was UK issued. Sleeve-note added.
