Thank you for this recordings, I have two or three of those Readers Digest records from this box dubbed on chrome cassete but they where very crackly because RCA (that was the label here) uruguayan pressing where really bad.
ReplyDeleteIn the UK only the Boult/Franck Sym + Gibson Pathetique were reissued, later 70s, in stereo (RCA Gold Seal/later RD Tchaikovsky box).
DeleteThe Boult (in the 1960 'Light Classics' box) are good (excellent 'Night on Bare Mountain' ) - but the Gibson 1812 is badly distorted/overloaded.
Greetings again - now at long last that i had time again to actually listen to music, this is the first of your newer offerings i put on. Expected little as it's "Reader's Digest", but no reason to look down on one's nose, it seems! The Mozart and Haydn are really nicely performed, yet distinct with their tempos. i quite liked the Mendelssohn also, but very different from Karajan's version - seemed 'sparse' in a way, but worked well.

Am pretty certain there was no UK mono..
There are 2 Freccia LP's (stereo) with the Rome PO in the 1960 RD 'Light Classical') box: the Wagner 'Rhine Journey' is really rather good - less so some others - so not sure about bothering.
Anyway, there's a 'delay' as may go over to Hard-Disk recording 24/96 (or 24/88) files (safer to create 'CD' files from the latter, apparently) - unless I stick to 16/44 for anything I can find the time to edit/upload (probably not much, now!!).
Well, selfishly enough i'm glad you didn't take a Winter Hibernation - got quite a bit to listen to now..
DeleteThat Wagner sounds interesting, has my vote in this democracy that is your blog... in the summer (or spring?) i heard an Italian conductor, Gatti, turn several pieces of Wagner into, well, at least he didn't know what they were - but they were terrible. And i've never even heard of this Freccia before..
