If I hang-around too much longer I'll be in danger of becoming a Historical Object myself...as the lengthy editing process doesn't encourage healthy activity...
DeleteStrangely, this LP was still in the Gramophone Catalogue in 1969 (as were some other ancient Oiseau-Lyre's - at which point Decca likely deleted all their 'old stock' mono's).
The Quartet playing in the Egk is very fine; but despite the LP being new/surgically-clean, it was a penance to edit - as applying 'de-clicking' (professional type...) -even at the lowest setting - damaged the sound (smearing/veiling began - without any noticeable 'improvement' in noise-reduction') - so you're hearing a very accurate transfer.
These are marvelous; thanks! You "threatened" to put up Froment's Rameau issues on L'O-L, and I heartily second the motion. They are treasures, too!

'Read my mind'....as I scanned the Rameau/Froment Oiseau-Lyre SOL sleeve yesterday.
DeleteLancelot's version of the Mozart Clarinet Concerto (Froment) is about my favourite (OL 50006) though my original 1953 LP has a less good flip-side surface (Sinf.Conc. K297); but the Rameau's a 'mint original' - and may well be next-up; it also still sounds pretty-good.
Wonderful music by Egk and Francaix, not only the jolly Frenchman as he is sometimes regarded!
