HMV SXLP 30075 (1967-1st UK stereo) 1970 LP. Matrices: 2YEA270 -6 / 2YEA271 -9G. Recorded: EMI Studio 3, Abbey Road.
The SXLP is distinctly preferable to the 1959 mono CLP 1282 - but required considerable wet-cleaning & editing...
NO Auto declick/re-eq (CLP 1072 Barcarolle <+1dB treble: see EMG reviews). Benno Moiseiwitsch's interpretations are 'characterful'. Sleeve-note + CLP covers / EMG reviews >>>
Many thanks for this gem! I am a great fan of this pianist.
ReplyDeleteWasn't sure if these had "made it to CD" - the Barcarolle otherwise stereo in an early EMI Stereosonic tape
DeleteAlmost a decade back I put his Rachmaninov '78's' (APR 2LP) on Historical blog - also bought the 2LP 'acoustics' - both from 'Caruso & Co' - but never played that set in some 40years..
I've the WRC (SH380) of Rachmaninov PC2 + the stereo taping of the Paganini - but they seem a bit filtered compared to the CLP's (hereabouts for nearly 15 years..). Otherwise only have the ALP Beethoven "Kreutzer" with Heifetz + a variety of 78 sets - some possibly not available..
Glad you like this (presumably mostly downloaded from JAPAN..) - decided not to use any auto-declick as it removes micro-dynamics and top-end attack/sparkle - but a slog to edit.
