Had intended including this with the original Columbia mono Symphonies 3/5/7 earlier this year. ( "Prometheus" not included in the 1977 2LP SXDW 3032 which has the 1969 sessions). Sleeve-note / 1988 Hi-Fi News review >>>
Haven't been back in a while as I'd thought you'd gone all subscription. Thanks for the new releases. Really enjoying comparing the original "Reader's Digest" disks to the Chesky reissues.
ReplyDeleteThat makes TWO of us!
DeleteNot much incentive to bother when getting effectively Zero responses (despite substantial downloads). At least my Electricity etc usage (if not the bills..) has noticeably lessened.
Didn't intend uploading all that RD box as performances aren't invariably worthwhile. Doubt they're worth buying @£8 a pop (as elsewhere) particularly as recall the LP dubbing-chain was a bit odd (QUAD 44 - signal then fed into QUAD 33:- I've all that stuff but wouldn't use - nor QUAD Valve (ancient (have) or modern) as was on another blog).
Of course theoretically much interesting stuff I could upload - but wet-cleaning became a no-no - especially for straight-from-the-factory condition ~60yo pressings: but may do the odd one during the coming months (the original Karajan/VPO SXL Don Juan/R&J sounds fab - as does Maazel/VPO Juan/Tod original SXL:- both Jan 1986 @ Gramex Betterton St -£1.50 sale. Possibly could edit the 'raw' vinyl - otherwise not bothering!!
Haven't been by in quite awhile, but looking forward to hearing this. Thanks !
ReplyDeleteProbably decided that I'd had enuff...
DeleteThe performance is, of course, fine (frequency-range seems restricted) though would've preferred EMI resisted 'digital remastering'.. as happened to compare a same vintage Hindemith HMV Treasury LP and the Horn Concerto (Brain) was a disaster compared to the 1972 HMV Treasury issue (c/w R.Strauss Concerti)...have a new original 33CX of the latter.
