Hi Frank,
ReplyDeleteJust played all the Tchaikovsky ballets last night. Couldnt be happier with the sound and performances.
Irving, Fistoulari, Desormiere are great in this repertoire. You don't hear much about Robert Irving any more but I have quite a few of his LPs in American issues and they're all worth hearing.
Hello Joe. I was wary about choosing the same PU for this one as I did for Pritchard's Soldiers Tale/Rakhlin Shosty 11) - as it can sound (depending on the 'speakers) 'amazingly' bright/'fast' compared to other PU designs...& will emphasize various 'pressing noises'... I've noticed that few/any comments are left for Robert Irving posts, but he is absolutely Tops when it comes to the Ballet repertoire -and the orchestra/s always appear to give excellent (& lively) performances under his baton.
ReplyDeleteIf very few comments are left for Robert Irving posts I must see what I can do to remedy it. Irving seems to be overlooked these days, which is most unfair as he was such a fine conductor of Ballet. His recordings were not numerous, and his tempi are not as driven as some maestros' but they always seem 'just right' to any ballet-goer. Your posts are very welcome, and sound superb to me. More please, if you can find them. More Desormiere as well, and Fistoulari come to that.

Hello Andrew. Thank you for the comments.
ReplyDeleteMight upload another Irving (or two) before killing-off the Blog, but those LP's containing 'bits' (ie: London Sinfonia: 'Carnival Time' / 'Merry-Go Round' / RPO: 'Pas de Deux') are not really satisfactory, & I don't care for 'Concert Arts' performances. However, 'Sylphides/Carnaval' (Philharmonia) is rather fine, as are the Decca's ('Le Cid' is no longer on the blog).
Hi Tin Ear
ReplyDeleteSorry on disturb but i have to ask you if there is a chance to re-upload this album (if you have a time at all).I really need this one. Thanks on all your effort.
My 're-uploads' rather ground-to-a-halt in March.
ReplyDeleteI had intended re-editing this - if only to remove some degree of remaining surface ticks (which would be even more obvious to me now..) - so will do that, from the WAV's, by the weekend...as it is an excellent LP.
What can i say than thank you a lot ! really
ReplyDeleteTHANKS A LOT !!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI've been reading the comments and they were very positive......I can't wait to hear this one. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteYou may well get some Goosebumps....
