Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra  conducted by  Willi Boskovsky
Decca  SXL 6040   First edition 1963 LP/matrices: ZAL5716/7 -2E/1E.  Recorded: 2-6 November 1962 - Sofiensaal, Vienna.      Sleeve-note >>>
RAW files - un-edited CD-RW transfer: not going to slosh Water'n'Sudso over this BRAND NEW LP - nor edit it for Hours..it's fine ('noise-free') as it is...but may later edit-away the few minor ticks ...or you can do that...
Utilized (testing) a 'new' Shure V15/III E cartridge [SME Series III arm] from last year: cost much less than mine in '73/4...but it's not superior to an 'everyday' Shure M97HE...

    1. Well - if you have an Audio Editor - here's your chance to do a bit of 'manual de-clicking': no Cheating - your Mission, if you accept, is to attempt to zap every teensy (and a few bigger) ticks.

Can't claim to have heard virtually any of my Boskovsky/Strauss LP's - only the DIGITAL 1979 2LP set bought at the time..

  2. What a remarkable pressing, Frank. K. has been removing some clicks and bumps, but then he's like that! We're not a big collector of the Strauss gang, but this album makes one rethink - bouncy, fresh, AND doesn't 'hang around' (like some recent albums).

    1. Hello Theresa.
If this was the typical 'starting-point' then would've been a happier bunny.

'Contamination' is the main bugbear as have many as good of this period (yesterday listened, 1st time, to a new copy (1960) of Backhaus/Beethoven PC5) and the Salome, above, was only hand de-clicked - not 'wet-cleaned' beforehand.

The irony is that 'valuable' LP's are the ones that are getting ruined; only encountered maybe 6 out of nearly 10K that previous owners had obviously cleaned, myself, it has now run into the 100's for these blogs, as can't really edit-away certain bumps'n'splats (usually near the edge).

I've been too lazy to follow-up with a manual edit; unfortunately the 24bit set-up had failed (yet again - and again a few weeks back: only Saturday acquired a boxed/NOS 40GB IDE drive..scarce!) otherwise would have put the V15/III stylus into the body used for 78 transfers, and had 32bit float files.

So it's nice to hear that this lark at least makes Keith happy!! (have the '1001 Nights' original SXL - the previous issue)
