  2. Thought I detected a trace of Wow - or maybe it was just a Handel-Headache?! Have the stereo WM with Boulez/Hague - which is a goodie. It would be interesting to compare the Dart recordings with all those Raymond Leppards (must have virtually every one) as I thought (whilst closely studying the waveform..) that the sound of Darts was somewhat more Authentic compared to the decade-later ECO Philips (and Oiseau-Lyre) LPs..

  3. Another great record for the early morning hours. This performance is new to me.

Downloading it now and will play it immediately (your transfers are so impeccable).

Many thanks. I love Thurston Dart's recordings.

  4. Thanks to Audacity I was able to remove quite a few Cutting-Rasps early on side two. The Philomusica/Purcell King Arthur (under Anthony Lewis) is now OOC. Have the original 1959 stereos - and never listened to that, either..

  5. Anthony Lewis is another conductor I like a lot: Handel, Semele and Purcell, Dido.
Haydn House has tranferred the Semele http://www.haydnhouse.com/HH17.htm but I already have that one on LP.

  6. Listening to this in a hotel in Manchester. Delightful way to end a day. The transfer is excellent and the recording sounds much younger than it's 51 years. The performers seem to be enjoying themselves and loving the music. Thanks for this - I will be listening to it often.

  7. The LP sounded pretty OK. I did, early last year (?), upload the 1954 Boyd Neel version (the C.18th Arnold edition) and had to restrict the data-rate - but dont really have time to re-do dubs for that.
